for\u00a0Caregivers and Providers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) now affects 1 in 58, with diagnosed rates continuing to dramatically increase.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><strong> Autism Spectrum Disorder is the fastest growing and most commonly diagnosed neurological disorder in Canada (Autism Speaks Canada, 2017) \u00a0Due to the many challenges of living with Autism, including : \u00a0communication; \u00a0sensory; \u00a0behaviour; \u00a0gross motor; fine motor; \u00a0daily living skills and more \u2013 this segment of the population is often unable to communicate pain, unable to maintain their own health &amp; behaviour and how those characteristics result in deficits in self-care for the person living with ASD.\u00a0 Issues reviewed will include skills needed for effective communication and why and when these are impaired for children\/youth\/adults with ASD, difficulties can occur.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Learn how to understand Sensory Issues and Adapted Environments.\u00a0 <\/strong>This presentation will include information about sensory differences that may be present in children\/youth\/adults with ASD.\u00a0 It will include a review of behaviours that may be related to over-responsiveness\/under-responsiveness to sensory input as well as sensorimotor integration issues that may impact motor planning and coordination. \u00a0\u00a0Information and strategies to support improved participation will be discussed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Learn how you can increase compliance \u2013 working with families \u2013 working with school teams \u2013 and at your client\u2019s home.\u00a0 <\/strong>The link between ASD, behaviours and compliance.\u00a0 This presentation explores basic principles of behaviour, including the nature of reinforcement, behaviour function, and how behaviour is strengthened to increase the likelihood it will happen again (or not happen again).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Learn how to deal with challenging behaviours and overcome communication barriers when dealing with people with Autism.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>This presentation will include plans for behaviour change with ways to improve healthcare providers\u2019 overall well-being along with the well-being of the person with ASD;
